This Page is Under Construction, More Will Be Added As I Have Time…
Here are some of my recommendations of things to do and see when visiting Myrtle Beach, or if you are new to the area, you may want to try some of these places while getting to know the Beach.
Whole Family:
Ripley’s Aquarium - This is the place we go more often than any other attraction. Great for all ages, especially young children. May not be as large an aquarium as in other Cities, but we have rarely been disappointed, and most visiting family members are happy to go back.
Wacatee Zoo - A little of the beaten path, South of Myrtle Beach, off Highway 707 - on Enterprise Road, in Socastee. This family owned and operated zoo is a lot of fun and has a variety of animals to see. Numerous peacocks freely roam the property. Marsh tours are available on the waterway behind the park. If possible, visit the park during the spring nesting season when hundreds of egret families are nesting throughout the marsh surrounding the park. It’s quite a sight.
Myrtle Waves Water Park -A water park at the Beach? Who would go to a water park instead of the beach? Lots of amusements for the whole family, and you won’t have to wash sand out of everything when you leave. Unfortunately, the popularity of the park leads to long lines through most of the tourist season.
For the Boys:
NASCAR Speedpark - A racing themed amusement park with a good variety of go-cart tracks and other activities. If you are going for a while, best bet is to buy the all-day pass, as just a few races can end up costing more than the day pass. NASCAR fans should check out the memorabilia and exhibits at the NASCAR Cafe right next door.
Paintball USA - (map) - The only paintball park in Myrtle Beach, located just south of MB, off of Highway 707, just south of Highway 544. They have all the equipment and paintballs for you to rent, so you don’t have to bring anything except some old ratty clothes. This place has several layouts for you to compete in, to keep things interesting. Definitely wear some old ratty clothes as the paint doesn’t seem to come completely out. If you have a group of boys with you, this place may be the ticket for a great afternoon or two.
For the Girls:
Build a Bear Workshop - Girls (and younger boys) will love making their own bears, or other animal that grabs their fancy. The bears themselves aren’t to expensive if you can minimize the clothes and accessories that drive up the price.
Restaurants:
Blue Elephant - (map) – Great Thai food in Murrells Inlet. Some of the best and most authentic Thai cuisine I have ever had. Small restaurant located on the south end of business 17 in Murrells Inlet. Bring cash or your check book as they don’t accept plastic. If you like Thai food, you have to check this place out.
Toffino’s - (map) – An Italian deli/bakery on the old Air Force Base. This bakery has an amazing selection of fresh breads and Italian desserts. I always try to stop by for lunch when I’m in the area, their philly cheesesteaks are excellent, as is almost everything I have tried on the menu. They are now open for breakfast and dinner, so take the short drive off of 17 Business or the Bypass on Farrow Parkway to Toffino’s. One tip – the eating area is kind of small, although I have always gotten a table (lucky?), so you may want to try to time your trip before or after the main lunch rush. Or stop by and grab a pizza for dinner, as I don’t think it is as busy for dinner. Definitely grab a dessert to top it all off.
